• Flying High for Attendance

  We are excited to introduce our new weekly attendance reward! Each week, the class with the highest attendance will be presented with their class flag in assembly, which will then be proudly flown on our school flagpole for the week. We hope this adds a sense of pride and friendly competition across school and encourages everyone to aim for excellent attendance every day.

  Our very first winners were Year 2. As you can see by their smiling faces - they were delighted to receive the trophy and the flag today!

• Nissan Engagement Day

  Today we enjoyed a visit from Lesley from Nissan. She started the day by leading a whole school assembly where she told us more about the company and the factory in Washington. She explained to us the steps involved in building a car, from building the body to adding the engine, electronics and final touches. We also learned some interesting facts about Nissan’s history and how the company has grown and created new technology over time.

  After that, each year group took part in engaging workshops where we designed and built our own cars out of LEGO. This helped taught us how tricky it can be to design a car, just like engineers do.

  

• Year 5 visit to Royal Grammar School

  We had a fantastic morning at the Royal Grammar School working with Matt Moore on Lego robotics. To begin, Matt gave us a short tour of the historic part of the building as it celebrates its 500th year, including a visit to the impressive hall where assemblies and concerts are held. The children then explored what computer science really is, learning that it is all about solving problems, giving clear instructions and thinking logically. They worked in teams to programme Lego robots to complete specific tasks, quickly realising that instructions need to be precise and often need refining. Throughout the session, the children showed great resilience and perseverance, testing, debugging and improving their code when things didn’t quite go to plan. They thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on experience, were highly engaged throughout and left feeling proud of what they had achieved, with a deeper understanding of how computer scientists work in the real world.

  

• Easter Eggstravaganza

  What a creative crew we have here at Cheviot! Thank you to everyone who took part in our annual Easter Eggstravaganza competitions! We were blown away by all of the entries and found it very difficult to pick the winners!
