Oracy during Sports week
Wed 01 Jul 2026As part of Sports Week, every class took part in an exciting World Cup Oracy Challenge, with each year group representing a different nation competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Children worked collaboratively to write, rehearse and perform persuasive speeches, using age-appropriate oracy skills from our progression map. Reception and Key Stage 1 classes created video presentations, while Key Stage 2 classes performed live in front of the whole school during assembly. Throughout the project, pupils developed key speaking and listening skills including eye contact, voice projection, purposeful body language, stage presence, the use of pauses for effect and constructing persuasive arguments supported by evidence. They demonstrated impressive confidence, teamwork and audience awareness, bringing football history, famous players and national pride to life in their performances. Mrs Waugh had the difficult task of judging the speeches and, after a fantastic showcase from every class, Year 3, representing Brazil, were crowned the winners for delivering the most persuasive and memorable rallying cry. The event was a wonderful celebration of both sport and oracy, providing every child with an authentic opportunity to communicate confidently, persuade an audience and showcase the speaking skills they have developed throughout the year.
Here are some of the presentations.
