  • World of possibilities visitor - Katie Bumer-Booke

    Wed 05 Mar 2025

We enjoyed another 'World of Possibilities' visitor this week. Katie is a personal coach and told us all about her career. Katie helps people to achieve their health and fitness goals and has been doing this job since she was only 16! Years 3 and 5 also took part in a workshop in which we did lots of exercise and then we created our own exercises. Ask your children to show you some of them!

  • World of Possibilities visitor - radiologist

    Tue 18 Feb 2025

Dr. Youssef Mentias came to see us. He is a radiologist which means he looks at x rays and diagnoses what is wrong with patients. He told us that he loves his job because he loves problem solving. We had lots of questions for him and he was very interesting to listen to. Youssef is originally from Egypt and trained over there but has worked here for quite a few years now.

  • Mental Health Week

    Fri 07 Feb 2025

We have had a brilliant week for Mental Health Week. On Monday we had an assembly with Mrs Abbott. She taught us that knowing ourselves is very important and this week we have been asking ourselves the following questions:

    What am I good at?

    What brings me joy?

    What makes me fearful?

    What makes me anxious?

We need to pick the right emotion for the right situation to be a healthier, happier person. When we know ourselves well, we can grow our resilience. Mrs Abbott shared with us that she started to learn to roller skate a while ago but gave up on it. She thinks she should have been more resilient so she has been trying to practice more. See the picture for proof!

This week reception have been thinking about ways we can relax - they had a lovely relaxing time cloud watching and having a mini pamper session!

Today (Friday) we all wore bright clothes to school - wearing bright colours can boost our mental health by stimulating positive emotions. Mrs Sands boosted the mental health of all of us by coming to school in extra specially bright clothes! Head over to our school website to see some pictures of our work.

  • World of Possibilities visitors - Women in Property

    Fri 07 Feb 2025

As part of our ‘World of Possibilities’ project we welcomed four visitors into school on Thursday of this week. The four ladies came to chat to us about lots of different jobs and encouraged us to think about the stereotypes sometimes associated with them. We often think of builders, architects and estate agents as men but we thought about how this is not necessarily the case. These are career paths open to everyone.

After a whole school assembly we all enjoyed a workshop where we thought about some of the key skills needed to work in the property and construction industry – focusing particularly on teamwork, oracy skills, creativity and developing ideas. We all designed our own buildings, created them using construction materials and evaluated them. What could we have done better?

  • Gung hey fat choi! (Happy Chinese New Year!)

    Fri 31 Jan 2025

Yesterday we all enjoyed a visit from four Chinese friends who came to talk to us about Chinese New Year. We enjoyed a whole school assembly where we found out how the festival is celebrated and how it originated. We enjoyed watch the story of the animal race and thinking about what animal year we were born in! You can watch the story on the cebeebies website.

After the whole school assembly, our four friends held a workshop with Year 4 who enjoyed learning how to write 'Good luck' in Chinese and made dragons and snakes.

2025 is the year of the snake.

  • Forest school

    Fri 24 Jan 2025

Forest School gives children at Cheviot the opportunity to connect with nature, and be mentally and physically stimulated in the outdoor environment. Activities are seasonal and can develop skills including knot tying, naming woodland animals and birds, spiders, making journey sticks and links to topics and the curriculum.

  • Sikhism Visitor

    Thu 16 Jan 2025

We had a great visit from Jaswinder Singh yesterday. He is a Sikh and came into school to tell us a little bit about his religion. He played a couple of musical instruments for us and told us about meditation. The children all listened so well to him and asked some brilliant questions at the end.

  • Happy Holidays!

    Fri 20 Dec 2024

We've had a brilliant few weeks with performances, parties and pantomimes so now we want to wish you all a very happy Christmas!

  • Christmas fun!

    Wed 18 Dec 2024

We've had a wonderfully festive couple of weeks in school. We've all had a party, all taken part in a performance and all made lots of festive crafts in school. Year 2 visited the church to sing our nativity songs and we all had an amazing time at the Christmas Fayre!

Early Years and Key Stage 1 enjoyed visitors in school to watch a winter show and all of Key Stage 2 went out on our annual trip to the pantomime to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Wow! We're all exhausted but have enjoyed every minute!

  • World of Possibilities gaming workshops

    Fri 06 Dec 2024

On Monday 25th November we had Jonny Hiftle from Gosforth Civic Theatre as our World of Possibilities visitor. He told us all about running a gaming social event where people of all ages can go and play games on different consoles. Jonny told us all that his job relies on being able to communicate well with a lot of different people, which is something we're really working on at the minute with our oracy work in school.

Then some of us were able to have a turn on some of the games that are available at the gaming social - we played online bowling, a retro racing game and had a try of a VR headset!

If you are interested in going along to the gaming social, which is on at the Gosforth Civic Theatre in Gosforth (right across the road from Regent Centre Metro with a huge bee mural on the side of the building!), the event is held every Tuesday during term time from 4:30 until 6pm. Here's the link to sign up: https://www.gosforthcivictheatre.co.uk/gct-gaming-social

Jonny hopes to see you there!
