  • Toon Toon!

    Tue 18 Mar 2025

We had a brilliant day on Friday of last week to celebrate Newcastle's trip to Wembley. Children sported black and white and our well wishes obviously worked as they won their first trophy in 70 years!

Our kitchen staff even prepared a lunch menu fit for the champions.

  • Science Week!

Mon 10 Mar 2025 Mrs Rutherford

It's Science Week! We'll be sharing some fun science activities for you to do at home, so keep an eye on SeeSaw! If you do any of the activities and share them with us on SeeSaw, you'll be entered into a prize draw to win a mystery science prize on Friday! Have fun, scientists!

  • Islam assembly

    Fri 07 Mar 2025

Today we enjoyed a visit from Brother Khadim from Newcastle Central Mosque. The assembly provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn more about Ramadan, fasting, prayer, and the celebration of Eid.

  • World Book Day

    Fri 07 Mar 2025

Yesterday we all had an amazing day for World Book Day. We had an assembly where we all got the chance to model out costumes on the stage.

We spent the rest of the day sharing books, discussing characters and talking about where and how we like to read. We thought about how we can read anywhere - on the bus, in a park, or curled up at home! Everywhere can be the perfect spot for a great story.

Lots of us (including staff) came dressed as a crayon to fit with our studies of 'The day the Crayons quit' books. Cheviot is like a box of different coloured crayons - each person is unique in their own way, but together, we create something vibrant and full of possibility.

  • World of possibilities visitor - Katie Bumer-Booke

    Wed 05 Mar 2025

We enjoyed another 'World of Possibilities' visitor this week. Katie is a personal coach and told us all about her career. Katie helps people to achieve their health and fitness goals and has been doing this job since she was only 16! Years 3 and 5 also took part in a workshop in which we did lots of exercise and then we created our own exercises. Ask your children to show you some of them!

  • World of Possibilities visitor - radiologist

    Tue 18 Feb 2025

Dr. Youssef Mentias came to see us. He is a radiologist which means he looks at x rays and diagnoses what is wrong with patients. He told us that he loves his job because he loves problem solving. We had lots of questions for him and he was very interesting to listen to. Youssef is originally from Egypt and trained over there but has worked here for quite a few years now.

  • Mental Health Week

    Fri 07 Feb 2025

We have had a brilliant week for Mental Health Week. On Monday we had an assembly with Mrs Abbott. She taught us that knowing ourselves is very important and this week we have been asking ourselves the following questions:

    What am I good at?

    What brings me joy?

    What makes me fearful?

    What makes me anxious?

We need to pick the right emotion for the right situation to be a healthier, happier person. When we know ourselves well, we can grow our resilience. Mrs Abbott shared with us that she started to learn to roller skate a while ago but gave up on it. She thinks she should have been more resilient so she has been trying to practice more. See the picture for proof!

This week reception have been thinking about ways we can relax - they had a lovely relaxing time cloud watching and having a mini pamper session!

Today (Friday) we all wore bright clothes to school - wearing bright colours can boost our mental health by stimulating positive emotions. Mrs Sands boosted the mental health of all of us by coming to school in extra specially bright clothes! Head over to our school website to see some pictures of our work.

  • World of Possibilities visitors - Women in Property

    Fri 07 Feb 2025

As part of our ‘World of Possibilities’ project we welcomed four visitors into school on Thursday of this week. The four ladies came to chat to us about lots of different jobs and encouraged us to think about the stereotypes sometimes associated with them. We often think of builders, architects and estate agents as men but we thought about how this is not necessarily the case. These are career paths open to everyone.

After a whole school assembly we all enjoyed a workshop where we thought about some of the key skills needed to work in the property and construction industry – focusing particularly on teamwork, oracy skills, creativity and developing ideas. We all designed our own buildings, created them using construction materials and evaluated them. What could we have done better?

  • Gung hey fat choi! (Happy Chinese New Year!)

    Fri 31 Jan 2025

Yesterday we all enjoyed a visit from four Chinese friends who came to talk to us about Chinese New Year. We enjoyed a whole school assembly where we found out how the festival is celebrated and how it originated. We enjoyed watch the story of the animal race and thinking about what animal year we were born in! You can watch the story on the cebeebies website.

After the whole school assembly, our four friends held a workshop with Year 4 who enjoyed learning how to write 'Good luck' in Chinese and made dragons and snakes.

2025 is the year of the snake.

  • Forest school

    Fri 24 Jan 2025

Forest School gives children at Cheviot the opportunity to connect with nature, and be mentally and physically stimulated in the outdoor environment. Activities are seasonal and can develop skills including knot tying, naming woodland animals and birds, spiders, making journey sticks and links to topics and the curriculum.
