Eat Smart food waste project
Wed 02 Apr 2025Now our 6 week 'Eat Smart' project has come to an end, Ruby (Year 6) has kindly given us a detailed evaluation of the findings of both audits.
In Audit 1, the most food wasted out of all of the bins was Year 5 and Year 6 lunchtime with 23 kilograms of waste. That means if every child wasted an equal amount of food, they would have wasted 0.55kg.
In Audit 2 the most amount of food waste came from the kitchen with 24kg. Most of that was salad. This week there was quite a large reduction. The total amount of food wasted in week 2 was 77kg - that’s equivalent to 292 meals! But, when compared to Audit 1, it is 16kg less food waste which is the equivalent weight to 1 Reception child in the bin! The money saved this week was £128. If we kept saving that much all year we would have saved £5,000!
The whole school action plan is pictured - we will all need to work together to achieve our next steps.

Hinduism assembly
Mon 24 Mar 2025On Monday 24th March, we were visited by a member of the Hindu community - Kirtida Richardson. Kirtida introduced us to some of their gods (Krishnan and Lakshmi) and the great god, Indra. Kirtida talked about how Hindus regard cows as sacred animals and she sang some calming meditative music, whilst playing the pakhavaj (a drum). The children enjoyed hearing about her way of life and they really enjoyed the feelings of calmness and peace that she brought to them.

World Book Day
Fri 07 Mar 2025Yesterday we all had an amazing day for World Book Day. We had an assembly where we all got the chance to model out costumes on the stage.
We spent the rest of the day sharing books, discussing characters and talking about where and how we like to read. We thought about how we can read anywhere - on the bus, in a park, or curled up at home! Everywhere can be the perfect spot for a great story.
Lots of us (including staff) came dressed as a crayon to fit with our studies of 'The day the Crayons quit' books. Cheviot is like a box of different coloured crayons - each person is unique in their own way, but together, we create something vibrant and full of possibility.

Katie helps people to achieve their health and fitness goals and has been doing this job since she was only 16! Years 3 and 5 also took part in a workshop in which we did lots of exercise and then we created our own exercises. Ask your children to show you some of them!

He told us that he loves his job because he loves problem solving. We had lots of questions for him and he was very interesting to listen to. Youssef is originally from Egypt and trained over there but has worked here for quite a few years now.
