Anti-Bullying week
Fri 14 Nov 2025This year's Anti Bullying Week theme was Power for Good! Mrs.Abbott showed us how to be a superhero in her assembly when she magically turned herself into a superhero- wearing her empathy boots, invisibility cloak, guiding gloves, thinking headband and brave heart necklace. We all have the equipment to put our power to good use.
Later in the week we went to Mrs.Abbott’s Anti-bullying workshop where we designed shields for our superheroes. We thought carefully about our slogans and our designs to make sure that the message was bold and clear. We would see our work again in the gallery as they were made into bunting!
Throughout the week each year group had an Anti-bullying task. Everyone’s work was displayed in the hall and we all had the opportunity to view the gallery. It was lovely to see our work on display, and we enjoyed looking at each class’s project. The hall looked so special. After school we opened the doors to a flood of proud adults who came to see our gallery of work. The adults were very impressed, and it brought a smile to everyone's faces.

Pedestrian Crossing
Thu 16 Oct 2025This term our Year 3 pupils have been taking part in pedestrian training to help them learn how to stay safe when walking near roads. During the sessions, they have been practising how to cross safely, recognise road signs and make sensible decisions as independent pedestrians. This important training helps children build confidence and awareness in real-life situations. Parents can support this at home by encouraging their child to use what they’ve learned on family walks and by discussing how to stay safe near roads.

Harvest
Fri 10 Oct 2025We were delighted to welcome our local vicar, Reverend Ruth to lead a special Harvest assembly. She spoke about the growth of fruit and vegetables in different conditions, helping us think about how we all continue to grow — not just children, but adults too, in knowledge and experience. The assembly also reminded us to be thankful at harvest and appreciate the many gifts we enjoy. The whole school enjoyed singing two harvest songs together too – ask your child to sing them for you!
Reverend Ruth will be visiting again to lead a Christmas assembly.
On Wednesday, our harvest donations were collected by the local food bank. The newly appointed School Council undertook their first official task and helped to load their vehicle, ensuring the items could be taken to support people in need. Tim, from the food bank came to collect our items and showed us a typical 3 day food parcel for a family, a couple or a single person. He told us that they provide 1,500 parcels every month!!
Thank you to everyone who contributed — your generosity makes a real difference in our community and helps our pupils understand the importance of kindness and giving.

Science Day
Fri 11 Jul 2025This week, children enjoyed a visit from the Cambridge Hands-On Science (CHaOS) Roadshow. A group of university students brought exciting, hands-on science activities into school for the children to explore. A few of the fascinating experiments included the ‘Flying Bag’, where a bag was warmed using a toaster and floated up to the ceiling, showing how hot air rises. In another, a child sat on a spinning chair and discovered how moving their arms or tilting a spinning wheel changed the speed and direction of their spin, helping them understand how forces and movement work. The children also examined real animal skulls and matched them to pictures of the animals, learning how bones can give us clues about living things. Finally, they worked together to build a curved bridge from blocks—with no glue or tape—which they could walk across, showing how shape and balance can create strong structures. Alongside these, there were many other exciting, interesting, and fun experiments that sparked plenty of curiosity and enthusiasm for science.

Trips
Fri 11 Jul 2025This half term, every class has enjoyed an exciting trip linked to their topics. Nursery and Reception visited the farm, with Reception also enjoying a day at the beach and the Aquarium. Year 1 explored the Centre for Life and Gosforth Nature Reserve, while Year 2 returned to the farm. Year 3 visited Belsay Hall, Year 4 explored Washington Wetlands, and Year 5 enjoyed trips to Beamish and the Great North Museum. Year 6 rounded things off with visits to the cinema and the beach. What a fantastic few weeks it’s been!
Educational visits are a valuable part of learning, helping to bring classroom topics to life and deepen pupils’ understanding through real-world experiences. They also support personal development, encouraging curiosity, independence and teamwork in new and exciting environments.

Year 6 Residential at Great Tower in the Lake District
Tue 01 Jul 2025Our recent Year 6 residential trip to Great Tower Scout Camp was a fantastic experience for all involved. The children embraced a wide range of exciting activities including paddleboarding, raft building, archery, crate stacking, tomahawk throwing, team games, and the daring leap of faith. On the first evening we enjoyed songs round the camp fire followed by a scenic walk up the hill, where Mr Mottram delivered an impromptu geography lesson about the Lake District.
All pupils stepped out of their comfort zones, showing incredible resilience, teamwork, and support for one another. The food on site was excellent, with no complaints from either children or adults. In their downtime, the children enjoyed playing outside, chatting in their rooms, and relaxing in the lodge’s lounge playing wink murder or board games. It was a truly memorable trip that showcased the pupils’ enthusiasm, spirit, and brilliant sense of humour.
A short video showcasing highlights from the trip can be found on the school facebook page and by clicking the link below.

Music Week
Mon 16 Jun 2025During our exciting ‘Making Music Week’, each class explored the power of music by creating their very own song using Suno, all inspired by our core school values.
Early Years based their song on our school motto, Get up! Get in! Get on!, while Year 1 and Caterpillars focused on empathy. Year 2 explored nurture, Year 3 chose respect, Year 4 highlighted independence, Year 5 celebrated confidence, and Year 6 expressed the importance of honesty. Each class experimented with a different musical style, bringing a unique sound to their creations. The week ended on a high note with a fantastic performance assembly, where we enjoyed watching and dancing along to all of the songs and voted for our favourite. A big congratulations to Year 6, whose hilarious lyrics and musical flair earned them first place!
