Easter Church Visits and assembly
Mon 30 Mar 2026Our Year 2, 3 and 4 pupils have recently enjoyed special visits to our local church, St Wilfred's, as part of their study of Easter. During their time there, the children explored the Easter story in greater depth, learning about its meaning and significance within the Christian faith. They had the opportunity to look around the church, ask thoughtful questions and take part in engaging activities that brought the story to life. The visits were a wonderful way to enrich their understanding and we were very proud of their curiosity, respect and excellent behaviour throughout. A big thank you to Reverend Ruth for welcoming all three classes.
On Monday this week Revered Ruth came into school to lead a whole school assembly. We really do appreciate the partnership we have with Reverend Ruth.

World Maths Day celebrations
Mon 30 Mar 2026As part of our World Maths Day celebrations, children across the school took part in two exciting challenges set by Callerton Academy, alongside three other local primary schools.
The first challenge asked children to design a maths-themed T-shirt, which they completed in class. Each teacher selected the two best designs from their class before Mrs Maitland and Mr Mottram chose the winner and runner-up in each class.
The second challenge was to create a maths board game at home, and we received some fantastic entries. Miss Hunter and Miss Thackray carefully tested all of the games before selecting an Early Years & KS1 champion and a KS2 champion.
Prizes for both competitions were handed out during assembly today. Thank you to everyone who took part and shared their brilliant ideas ➕📐🎲

Coming soon ... Sports Week
Sun 29 Mar 2026Sports week
Every year we dedicate one week in the Summer term to ‘sports week’ and a dedicated amount of the school budget is set aside to spend on valuable enrichment activities for the whole school to enjoy. In the past we hired inflatables for one day of the week but last year we decided to spend the money on workshops throughout the week in frisbee, golf and fencing.
This year we decided to ask our pupils whether they would like us to spend the money on the inflatables or on multiple workshops. Here are their votes:
Option 1 (inflatables) – 14.7%
Option 2 (workshops) = 85.3%
Mr Mottram and Mrs Love have got the message and are currently looking into what exciting activities they can book!
Sports week this year will be week beginning Monday 15th June.

World of possibilities visitor - Leah
Fri 27 Mar 2026On Tuesday of this week we welcomed another world of possibilities visitor. Leah works for Tyne Tees News as a producer. She told us all about how her love of writing as a child led her her career as a journalist. As always, our pupils listened with respect and asked brilliant questions.

Red Sky Sponsored Event
Fri 20 Mar 2026Recently all children completed 'step-ups' in school to “climb” a chosen mountain or landmark, with their total steps added together to represent the height reached. This was a fun physical challenge to raise money for the Red Sky Foundation, a local charity supporting heart health and CPR education.
Children and parents supported this in an overwhelming way by raising an incredible £2630!

Story sacks
Thu 19 Mar 2026Our Reception and Year 5 children have been enjoying using Story Sacks as part of our reading for pleasure activities. Each story sack contains a book along with props and resources linked to the story. The children work in pairs, with our Year 5 pupils supporting the younger Reception children as they explore the story together. They use the props to retell events, act out characters and talk about what is happening in the book. This shared experience helps to build confidence, develop language and communication skills and most importantly encourages a love of reading. By making stories interactive and fun, the children are able to experience the joy and excitement that books can bring.

Science Week
Fri 13 Mar 2026During the week beginning 9th March, our school enjoyed a fantastic Science Week, packed with exciting experiments and investigations across all classes.
This year’s theme focused on curiosity – encouraging children to ask questions about the world around them and to explore why things work, how they work, and what happens when we test our ideas. It was wonderful to see pupils thinking like scientists: predicting, observing, discussing and discovering together.
The video below shows a montage of some of the highlights from the week, with children fully engaged in a range of hands-on scientific activities.
A big thank you to Mrs Rutherford for organising the week and planning such engaging experiments for every class.

World Book Day
Thu 05 Mar 2026Today was World Book Day. We had a wonderful time celebrating this year with our special theme inspired by the much-loved Mr. Men and Little Miss books. Children were invited to come dressed as any character of their choice, and it was a joy to see such a wide range of creative costumes across the school.
Many pupils (and staff too) embraced the theme by dressing as familiar favourites or even inventing brand-new characters of their own.
The day was filled with stories, laughter and a shared love of reading, reminding us all of the magic that books bring to our school community.

World of Possibilities Visitors
Fri 27 Feb 2026This week we have enjoyed two assemblies in which our visitors talk to us about their current job. As always our children asked brilliant questions such as ‘what skills are necessary to do your job?’ and ‘what is the funniest thing that’s happened to you while you were at work?’
Our first assembly was with Daryl and Lee from Newcastle Building Society and the second was with Anna, Hana and Charlie who work for a building company and as town planners. They also led a workshop with our Year 6 class in which they were asked to pretend they were a small construction company designing and building housing estates.
