Cheviot is a fully inclusive school.
At Cheviot we pride ourselves on being an extremely inclusive, caring and forward thinking school at the heart of the local community. Children’s all round development is paramount to us and we endeavour to provide children with a wide range of experiences and opportunities so that they experience success and are well equipped for their future education. Our school is a primary academy and is part of SMART Multi Academy Trust. The Smart Multi Academy Trust SENDCos share expertise and resources across the Trust. Where we find that additional expertise, equipment or facilities are required, we work with relevant partner organisations and external agencies to secure them. This could include social service providers, such as health professionals, the Local Authority, and voluntary organisation specialists as we maintain strong professional relationships with all of these partners.
Although basic skills form the core of our curriculum we strongly believe that all children need a broad and balanced curriculum. Our curriculum is well established and is underpinned by children’s literature and meaningful and engaging learning contexts, which enable children to develop spiritual, moral, social and cultural aspects of learning. All staff, pupils and governors at Cheviot embrace opportunities to strengthen our school community and improve the outcomes for pupils – we live and breathe our school motto of Get up! Get in! Get on!
Within Cheviot, all staff ensure they follow the SEND Descriptors of Need and Universally Available Provision , these documents are provided by the Local Authority and describe the provision that should be available across all mainstream schools (within Newcastle) and settings for pupils with SEND.

Concerns or complaints
If you have any concerns about your child’s SEND progress or provision we would urge you to come into school and discuss matters further with your child’s class teacher or the our
SENDCO, Ms. Thompson, by email jane.thompson@smartacademies.net or phone on 0191 2869324.
Alternatively, Mr Gallon, Mrs Sands or Mrs McCulla are also available to help. Although we would always hope to resolve any issues or concerns informally by working in partnership with parents, school complaints procedures are in place.
