Art

Art is learning about artists, techniques and skills that can be used to experiment and create.

What do children learn about?

Drawing – learning to use lines, shapes, and shading to create images.
Painting – experimenting with colour, brush techniques and different types of paint.
Printing – using various materials and tools to create repeated patterns and images.
Textiles – working with fabrics, threads, and other materials to create textured art.
Collage – combining paper, photos, and other materials to make layered artwork.
Sculpture – creating 3D artwork using clay, wire, and other sculpting materials.

Woven throughout our art curriculum, we learn about famous artists — who they are, what they created and why their work is important.

How is it taught?

This can be different depending on the year group. In Early Years, children always have chances to be creative in their creative areas. In Key Stage 1 and 2, children are taught art skills over a term and get to be creative with lots of hands-on activities.
