Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is ‘additional’ to main school funding. The Pupil Premium is a Government initiative that targets extra money towards identified groups of children:

Pupils from deprived backgrounds: research shows that this group of pupils underachieve compared to their non-deprived peers.

  • Children from low-income families who have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last 6 years in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings.

  • Children who have been adopted

  • Children whose parent/parents work in the armed forces.

  • Children who have been looked after within Local Authority care continuously for more than six months.

The funding premium is provided in order to support these pupils in reaching their potential. It is up to individual schools how best to allocate this funding so that it can be geared towards the needs of individual children.
