Eat Smart food waste project
Now our 6 week 'Eat Smart' project has come to an end, Ruby (Year 6) has kindly given us a detailed evaluation of the findings of both audits.
In Audit 1, the most food wasted out of all of the bins was Year 5 and Year 6 lunchtime with 23 kilograms of waste. That means if every child wasted an equal amount of food, they would have wasted 0.55kg.
In Audit 2 the most amount of food waste came from the kitchen with 24kg. Most of that was salad. This week there was quite a large reduction. The total amount of food wasted in week 2 was 77kg - that’s equivalent to 292 meals! But, when compared to Audit 1, it is 16kg less food waste which is the equivalent weight to 1 Reception child in the bin! The money saved this week was £128. If we kept saving that much all year we would have saved £5,000!
The whole school action plan is pictured - we will all need to work together to achieve our next steps.
